computersDefinition from Wiktionary, the free dictionary Jump to: navigation, searchFrom Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A computer is a programmable machine that receives input, stores and manipulates data//information, and provides output in a useful format. While a computer can, in theory, be made out of almost anything (see misconceptions section), and mechanical examples of computers have existed through much of recorded human history, the first electronic computers were developed in the mid-20th century (1940–1945). Originally, they were the size of a large room, consuming as much power as several hundred modern personal computers (PCs). Modern computers based on integrated circuits are millions to billions of times more capable than the early machines, and occupy a fraction of the space. Simple computers are small enough to fit into mobile devices, and can be powered by a small battery. Personal computers in their various forms are icons of the Information Age and are what most people think of as "computers". However, the embedded computers found in many devices from MP3 players to fighter aircraft and from toys to industrial robots are the most numerous. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How do I make my printer work with my wireless computers? Q. We have 4 computers in our house. Three are currently wireless, one hardwired. We have one printer that is connected with wires to one of the wireless computers. Right now, we can only print using that one computer. So if we are working on one of the other computers, we have to save the file and email it to ourselves and go open it on the "printing" computer. How can I print from the other three computers? Is there a way to link it all now or do I need to go buy some more equipment for the printer? Or do only certain printers have these capabilities? Asked by ladybug - Fri Jul 20 19:29:06 2007 - - 7 Answers - 1 Comments A. You need a network printer server. You plug your printer into this little box and plug it into your wireless router. No longer plug printer into any of your computers. Leave the printer, printer server, and router on all the time. You can turn off the computers. Printer's always available. Some printers already have this ability built-in, and are usually labelled as "network ready", or something like that; they'll have an ethernet jack on the back if they are. Anyway, Linksys makes these little items, inexpensive too. If the following link doesn't work for some reason, the device is the Linksys WPS54G. Brothers computer got hacked, he basically lost his yahoo/gmail/facebook accounts. His running a malware scan so that should be cleared up. However, whatever malware or virus that got his computer, can it infect other computers that are connected to the same router my brothers laptop uses? I mean ya, a malware program can come from anywhere, but can it spread through a router like that? Asked by Emanuel N - Wed Jul 21 07:42:30 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Yes, absolutely. Think about what you're asking. Can a virus, that's transmitted through the internet to one machine, infect another machine on the same internet connection!!! Answered by arou42 - Wed Jul 21 07:47:44 2010 Can computer connected through router see workgroup on computers connected to modem?
Q. Here's the situation: I have a modem which have 4 connections. 1 of them is connected to a wireless router and 3 others to computers. When I connect to the router, I can see the workgroup computers of others who use wireless. However, I can't see the workgroup computers of those connected to the modem. Any way to solve this? Asked by wwwdrecom - Thu Apr 23 01:00:55 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. you might want to try switching your connections around, try connecting the computers to the router and connect the modem to the port on the router specifically for modems (IE: a linksys router has a modem connection to the left of the other ones, separate). Also, if this isn't your problem, make sure all the computers are in the same workgroup.
