What is the overdrive indicator light means in your car engine ?
Q. I found a symbol that said "O/D OFF" appeared on my car and it's called "Overdrive-off indicator light". Can anyone tell me what it is and what cause it appear that suddenly ?
Asked by missybitsy - Sun Sep 9 16:55:44 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Overdrive doesn't have anything to do with the engine. It does have to do with the transmission. It gives you the option of moving slower with more power, or faster with less. The control is usually on the gearshift. You, or a passenger, probably bumped it.

Q. How good of an indicator to sexual attraction is porn? What do you think? Can I tell my sexual attraction or orientation through it? Thanks.

A. Regardless of the few posts I've seen to the contrary, I would have to say that it's a pretty darn good indicator. And for those who claim otherwise, that closet is going to get uncomfortable sooner or later.

Why is my turn indicator blinking faster on the right side than the left?
Q. My right side indicator suddenly started blinking faster. However, when I pulled into my parking space and before I turned off the car, I tried it again and it was normal. I know that on another car when the taillight went out it caused the blinker to just stay steady - no blinking at all. A simple bulb change cured that. What could my problem be? It's a '97 Jetta, if that makes a difference.

Where can I find information about indicator plants?
Q. I'm trying to do a school project on indicator plants. (eg: clover indicates low nitrogen on the soil) (i think) maybe that was a bad example, but that's kind of what I'm looking for, in other words how the presence of certain plants tell you things about the soil or environment. I went to the library but I couldn't find much. Can anybody point me in the right direction? I'm shooting blanks here.

A. I know more about plants being wetland indicators (I used to work doing wetland delineations) so I'll post some info for you about that. I also found these websites, which seem to be more along the lines of what you're asking about: - use the lists on the left to find species - the links will tell you what each is an indicator of Plants also have preferences as to how "wet" of a soil they'll grow in. Some, like cattails, are always found in wetlands and are considered "obligate" wetland plants. Others are never found in wetlands, and are considered "upland" species. And a lot fall in between, and are classified as to how likely it would be to find them in a wetland. This link explains the categories: These plants are used… [cont.]

What is the purpose of the colored indicator lights in the ceiling of the cabin of a commercial jet?
Q. In some commercial airliners, you can see a row (usually four?) of indicator lights of different colors. At some times, some of them are on, at other times none. What is the purpose of these lights?
Asked by Baloo K - Thu Nov 12 05:04:56 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I am suspicious you are asking about interior lights. There are several bars of muted colored lights near the top of the cabin. They generally indicate the source of calls to the flight attendant. Pink indicates a crew intercom call, white indicates that a passenger has activated a FA call button. A blue light sometimes illuminates when the corresponding lav is occupied. A separate lone blue light located near the front means that the pilots are in a more serious stage of flight (usually departure, approach, or landing) and the flight attendants should only call in the event of an emergency.

Q. I would like to the the chemical changes that occur when acids like acetic acid and citrus acid or bases like sodium bicarbonate are added to the pH indicator which is extracted from red cabbage. The indicator changes color but I want to know How and Why and what causes it to change color.
Asked by Neil - Wed Mar 3 05:24:28 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Basically it is the same as any other acid-base indicator. The indicator colour is a weak acid ... represent as HIn The equilbria is HIn <---> H+ + In- colour 1 colour 2 The undissociated acid HIn has one colour, and the ion In- another [and colour mixes inbetween] If you have done Le Chateliers Principle you will understand how adding acid or base will shift the equilbria left or right respectively giving the two different colours.

How do I get my speaker indicator lights to acknowledge my speakers on the Yamaha RX V663?
Q. I recently hooked up a 5.1 system to my RX V663 A/V. The speakers all work and sound great, but the speaker indicator lights only light up for the front speakers when using all 5. I'm stumped! Also the indicator lights do work when I run the set up procedure.
Asked by Jim D - Fri Nov 14 03:48:42 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. That is not really a speaker indicator. It is a signal indicator. It is currently showing you a 2.0 signal or stereo. If it gets a 5.1 signal like from a DVD player through digital cable they will all light up.

What is a good indicator to use to confirm a stock is breaking out?
Q. I want to buy stocks just as they breakout so what technical indicator(s) can i use to pick stocks breaking out??
Asked by Stockwillrise - Sun Apr 5 15:49:43 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Technical indicators you could look at could be things like ROE and ROA growth, EPS growth. If they are growing quickly and better than industry averages then chances are that the firm's stock are undervalued. However, for every one Microsoft there are thousands of firms that do not make it. One tip I have learned is that volume always tells the truth. If the stock moves up or down and the volume doesn't increase then it is probably a "head fake" (meaning that the stock will rebound in the opposite direction soon).

How good of an indicator is CM to tell ovulation?
Q. I had eggwhite for a couple of days and since then I have had more than usual, a couple days of lotion type and now more watery (and lots). I was on the pill for almost 10 yrs so my cycles have been VERY irregular (which makes it hard to know what is going on). So do you guys think that a CM cycle like this is a good indicator that I did ovulate? Thanks for the help.

A. Not always good, especially if you have a lot of sex and use lubricants. Sperm and KY can distort the look of your CM.

What is the relationship between VOR and heading indicator?
Q. I use Microsoft flight simulator and I am trying to teach my self the basics using Flight Simulator. I am slowly learning about VOR itself, but I am confused because sometimes my heading indicator does not show the heading my VOR indicator does.
Asked by nickgj - Tue Apr 21 08:47:50 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Navigating with the VOR is an abstract concept that many students struggle with. There are two types of VOR indicators. One version has a manual rotating azimuth card that you set yourself to match the desired VOR radial (course) you want to track inbound or outbound. The CDI (course deviation indicator) needle is fixed, straight up and down. This is pretty standard on light aircraft. The other type, known as a Horizontal Situation Indicator (HSI) superimposes a manually rotable CDI over top of a normal directional gyro. I'm guessing from your question that your FS airplane is not equipped with an HSI. So, in a nutshell, you must manually set the azimuth card on the VOR to match the VOR radial you want to track. Unless you happen to… [cont.]

What happens when you add too much indicator?
Q. If you are performing a titration, what would happen if you added too much indicator, say, phenolphthalein to the solution? Would it make it easier to detect the equivalence point of the reaction?
Asked by redundant redhead - Fri Apr 17 01:51:53 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Nothing much would change if you added too much indicator. The color will be more intense, but it will still change at the same pH range. It really won't help to see the endpoint. There is a downside though, albeit, a small one. An indicator is a weak acid, and some of the added base will go into reacting with the indicator. It's probably not enough to notice, but in some cases it might be.
