A. Details are provided through a video link at This is explained for DVP5990 but it also works for DVP 3356 In short, the steps are as follows 1. Press SETUP on your remote 2. Use the down arrows to go to Preference tab 3. Dial 138931 It will display the current region on the screen. 4. Use the up/down arrow on your remote to set the region that you want. Region 0 will open it for all regions. 5. Exit from setup.

A. dvd players cant read MP4 format, or files that were on your computer. they have to be converted into a dvd format, which is usually Mpeg2 and is a few files and in a folder. some dvd playes have problems with reading dvd+r or dvd-r discs too.

Hooking up a Philips DVD player to a Toshiba TV?
Q. I have a Philips progressive scan DVD player that I have been trying to get to work with my Toshiba TV. It's not a flat screen, but it is relatively new. My DVD player worked with my other small TV...but I cannot for the life of me to get it to work with my Toshiba TV. I have hooked it up correctly but it still will not work. The TV doesn't have a Video channel or an option for TV Video. I can't figure out what's wrong. Can you?

A. If it's relatively new it has to have, and probablydoes, more than one set of video inputs. You should have a video/tv button on your remote, or something like this that takes you through the various inputs of the tv. Sometimes you'll have to push the tv/video button on the dvd remote. Keep going, you'll find the right combination.

What file types does the philips 711 dvd player read?
Q. I'm in college and home for Christmas, but I left all my DVDs up at school. I have some of them on my computer, but when I burn them to a disc they don't read in my parents' dvd player. All the other dvd players in my house read them just fine, just not the main one. It is a Philips 711.

A. Wow, those were produced back in 2000/01 and it works? Nice player to have lasted that long. It may not be file format it could be disc. If you are using +R/RW try using the -R/RW. Make sure to finalize were needed. Also use a slower speed disc (4 or 8) if you have one. Age of the players technology is more the issue than the file type.

Why is my Philips DVD player playing my DVD in black and white?
Q. I have just burned a DVD on my laptop and played it to check it had worked. It played on my laptop, and everything was fine but when I put it into my DVD player, it would only play in black and white. A. Put an Old DVD on the DVD player - If it works OK, then it is a disc problem. If not, check the cable son your DVD player. Most likely your burnt it in PAL and your DVD player is NTSC only- or something similar.

If you have lost your original I know of a website that sells alot of replacement remotes and may can help you ... www.vancebaldwin.com ... they sell replacement remotes and I'm sure if you want a universal that will work everything (ie.. tv...stereo...dvd) they can have someone tell you the best to get. Q. There is a big difference in the price, 90 to 150. But the only things I can see that are different are the HDMI and Video Plus+. Oh, and freeview. (Which I wouldn't use anyway.)

A. Do you also get black and white while watching regular cable ? . Just make sure that your cables are connected properly . That happened to me when I hooked up my PS2 to my new tv . I was using component cable ( red , green , blue ) from the ps2 and I did not match the colors of the component cables to the colors of the component input on back of the tv . Meaning that I plugged the blue cable into the green input .etc.. Just make sure the colors match . Blue to blue , green to green , red to red . If that does not help . Can you try and hook up the dvd player to a different tv and see if you get the same problem . Or try a different dvd player , if you have one , to your new TV . Also , you can try using a different input on the back… [cont.]
