How to use an RCA TV as a Secondary Computer Monitor?
Q. Are there any cables that well allow me to use a TV with RCA inputs as a secondary computer monitor. PS:I just want to use this monitor to watch movies not to read text.
Asked by Rob - Sun Jul 18 02:41:13 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If your computer has a S-video output, then all you need is a S-video to composite video cable. If your computer does not have a S-video output, then you will need a VGA-to-composite transcoder box (NOT just a VGA-to-RCA cable).

A. The TV is telling you one of two things. Either the wall receptacle into which you are plugging it is wired wrong, or there is a fault in the TV's power supply that is potentially very hazardous. I would first test the wall receptacle to make sure the hot, neutral, and ground connections are on the proper pins. You can get a simple testing tool in the electrical section of your hardware store to do this. Ask someone at the store how to do it; it's quite simple. If that's okay, then the TV needs a trip to the repair shop to find out why it's trying to fry itself. Don't plug it in, just get it checked out by a pro or by a very experienced do-it-yourselfer with the right tools and testing apparatus. You may find that it's time to… [cont.]

Will a SONY universal remote work with a RCA tv?
Q. Stupid question time! I am a little confused at how "universal" universal remotes are. Can I buy any brand remote for my tv? I have an RCA tv, but hate the RCA universal remotes. Can I buy a different brand universal remote such as Philips, or Sony for my RCA tv?
Asked by david.lengling - Wed Jun 10 00:55:14 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes, a SONY Universal remote could work with an RCA TV, provided it has the codes for that model... A universal remote has limited memory, so it can't support every TV out there. That's why pay a little more and get a Learning remote, then you can teach it the codes of your remote.

Q. It's an rca rear projection 52" hdtv and there is a blank black square in the middle of the screen towards the bottom. it goes away when i bring up the tv menu but goes right back when i clear it. please help!

A. That sounds like either a blank closed captioning or teletext background. Check the menus and make sure closed captions are turned off. Also, some TVs will go into closed caption mode when they are in MUTE. I hope this helps. Please return and select a Best Answer from all of those submitted.

Why won't my cable work on the 1991 RCA TV I bought at a yard sale?
Q. We bought an old 1991 RCA tv at a yard sale for the exercise room, it has no remote. I split the cable (after the VCR) from our room and hooked the line to the tv but all I get is black snow. I get a couple channels when I put the rabbit ears to it but nothing with the cable line so I know the tv works. RCA doesn't have the user manual online for it so any help I can get would be great. Thanks for reading.

A. without a model number we can only guess what TV you have. If you can get a picture with bunny ears but not with the external antenna then you many not be getting a rf signal through the VCR.

How do you fix lines on a RCA tv?
Q. I have an old RCA tv, from around the 80s. the tv worked perfectly for years but All of a sudden i have these diagonal lines that popped up on the tv and the sharpness is reduced. Also most of the control knobs on the back are broken off. So can i repair this myself, should I take it to a shop, or will it be too expensive, and should i just buy a new tv?

A. Why spend money on an old TV, when it can go towards a new one. No guarantee that the old TV will last much longer. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a new one for the holidays.

Do I need a Coaxle to RCA adapter for my TV if the coaxle input on the back is broken?
Q. Was cleaning, TV fell on floor, ripped out the back connection for cable TV. RCA inputs still work fine on the TV, is there any adapter made from cable to RCA? Or do I need to just have the cable input fixed? I know that will probably be costly.

A. There is no adapter. You need some kind of tuner. If all you need is analog TV, use a VCR as a tuner.

How to watch a DVD on an old RCA TV without the remote?
Q. My Aunt has an older tv that was given to her (not sure about the model) without the remote. I've been trying to hook a DVD player up to it and so far no luck. I've tried hooking it up through the cable box and through the tv, and so far no luck. There isn't any input buttons that I can find and I'm stumped. Any ideas?

A. First thing for sure--sending the signal to the cable box wont work...To properly help you-we need you to look on the back of the set and see what kind of inputs you have..No big deal about the missing remote---you can scroll through menus on the front of the set but first must be wired properly..Please update with more info.

What are the specs for RCA TV Model F35673MBYX1?
Q. We purchased this tv several years ago. We want to get a swivel for it and need to know how heavy the tv is.
Asked by Deborah B - Tue Jun 19 20:39:54 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The TV is less than 200 pounds, but more than 170. RCA doesn't seem to list the weight in the specifications on their service manuals or operation manuals...so they must list it on the packaging. But I do know that 35/36 inch TVs fall in the above weight category.

A. If it's the chassis I'm thinking of! Those old RCA's usually needed the focus setup ( which is not a hard job to do & also the sharpness control sticking out the back of the chassis also used to have a dirty control.

How do I have "surround" sound with new RCA TruFlat tv and existing stereo?
Q. I was just given an RCA TruFlat tv (built in vcr and dvd) as a gift. My (very) old tv, older stereo and vcr were all hooked up together and I could have "surround" sound thru the stereo and it worked pretty well. I want to do the same thing with the new tv without buying a whole expensive system. The tv instructions say it won't work with something that has built in DTS. I'm assuming that's my stereo. (I don't have cable or satellite) What are my options? Can I buy an inexpensive av amplifier (?) and just hook the tv and stereo to that? Good answer Jefferson! But I guess I negelected to mention that I tried that and it didn't work. What did I do wrong then?
Asked by dlm3300 - Sun Dec 24 10:43:44 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Uh, huh. Well, here's the thing. You have a "stereo" which means "stereo" not "surround". You will then be limited to hooking up the red and white RCA outs of the TV, VCR, DVD, whatever, and into the amplifier and playing back through the speakers. DTS is an encoding yes, but it will not interfere with the analog playback of the TV, or the playback through the stereo. Solution. Dude, step up. Put the "stereo" in the garage, get an inexpensive true surround system, even the theater in a box is fine for your application, and be done with it. The 70's are over my friend.

A. when you loose audio on your tv do you still get audio from your amp if you were to change it to raido or another music source such as cd player? if you dont then its your amp. if it is your amp do you only loose audio upon turning up volume or loud secnes on the tv? if so you might have a speaker short. check and make sure no bare speaker wires are touching. does the audio turn back on when you power off and on the amp? if its not the amp, what happens if you have audio and you jiggle the wires behind the tv? if you looses audio you have a bad cable or connector. in a projection tv the terminals should be replaceble just dont touch the inside of the screen or lenses. i need much more info to resolve problem.
