What is the best way to fix the VCR on a TV/VCR combo set?
Q. I have an Emerson TV/VCR combo for 6 years and lately, the VCR part does not work at all (the TV part is fine, by the way). Here is the problem with it, everytime when I put in a tape in, it eats the tape. I been told that the VCR needs cleaning, so I bought a VHS cleaner for the VCR, and still, it still ate the cleaner tape. Is there a way to get it fixed?
Asked by tlcoopi - Tue Jul 10 18:12:20 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It should be fixable IF parts are available... Your take-up idler is not reeling in the tape during play... If you go into the VCR menu and turn off "AutoPlay" it will stop loading the tape and playing it and eating it... Then you can insert a tape, and hit rewind...if you hear the tape rewind, then try Fast Forward...if it works on both then the reels aren't stuck and the brakes are released...and your idler belt is ok...(you won't need that part) Then if you play it and it eats it...the idler's clutch is bad...(then the idler must be replaced)

How do you program a Comcast universal remote to operate the DVD player of Toshiba combination TV/VCR/DVD?
Q. I have the comcast universal remote with the red OK/select button and just hooked the cable box up to my TV. My TV is a Toshiba with a DVD player and a VCR player built in. I can already control the cable and the TV with the remote and was wondering if I could also control the DVD or VCR parts.

A. I have bad news for you. As the owner of a Comcast remote and a DVD/VCR combo, you cannot use their remote for anything other than your TV.

How to you get a vhs tape out of a tv-vcr combo?
Q. again, this is stuck inside a tv-vcr combo. the vcr no longer works and the tape is stuck in there b/c the buttons no longer respond to ejecting a tape. we still use the television every day. any advice on how to get it out appreciated yeah right douche bag

A. Robert's right - you need to take the cover off the machine and carefully free the tape. Even if the tape hasn't snarled itself inside the machine, you wouldn't believe how convoluted the tape path is in 'normal' operation. Good luck with it!

How do I connect a HD TV, HD cable box, DVD recorder w/HDMI uplink & a VCR?
Q. I just purchased a new DVD recorder with the HD up-link. After MANY hours I have it hooked up to a TV, VCR, and Cable Box. There is one problem left. Audio and video need to go out from the cable box (Comcast HD box) and to both the TV and the DVD player. I have video going out with RGB cords to the TV and regular video out to the DVD player. The problem is audio. There is only one audio out spot on the cable box. Right now I have that out going to the DVD player, so the TV has no audio unless the DVD player is on. The problem with this is that the DVD player does not show TV in HD quality... defeating the entire purpose. I've tried using a digital coaxil, but that won't work because it is an audio out spot on both the DVD player and… [cont.]

How do I connect all the wires to my VCR, DVD recorder, cable box, and TV?
Q. I would like to record tv shows from tv to vcr and then from vcr I would like to record video cassettes to dvd recorder. The thing I don't get is that my tv and vcr have different looking antenna output and input ports. VCR, for instance, indicates Aerial input and RF output while TV has Aerial looking input only. Cable and antenna wires do not match those ports. Is there a solution for this?
Asked by dkaykov5 - Sun May 18 11:05:22 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I would need to know what type of connections you do have. An RF port is the common threaded port that I think you are talking about. Your DVD Recorder will most likely have RCA ports, (Yellow, White and Red), as well as other connection types like S-Video, HDMI, DVI. If your VCR and TV only have RF ports (F-81), you will need an RF modulator to convert the signal for you. There are also mass switched out there. You can hook everything up to one hub.

Can I hook up a closed-circuit TV camera to a "normal" TV/VCR?
Q. I have an old General Electric/Diebold CCTV camera. Can I hook it up to a normal TV or VCR? I got an adapter and hooked it up, but nothing is shown when I tune to channel 3 or 4 on the TV.
Asked by nbarb99 - Sat May 27 22:18:14 2006 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Master U is correct. The output of a closed circuit camera is composite video, not an r.f. signal, so connecting it to the antenna socket of the t.v. or v.c.r. won't work.

A. Do you have access to a Menu button on the unit itself. You probably will have to go through the Menu itself to change the record speed.

Asked by sheri m - Fri Sep 8 16:45:58 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Part 1: Depends on your TV Part 2: Why do you want to hook up 2 DVR's? OR is the Pioneer a DVD Recorder.? Part 3: TV has 2 or more inputs... Split Direct TV(DTV) signal source, connect 1 signal to Direct TV box, then to Pioneer, then to optional (audio/video) input on TV. Connect other signal to Tivo, then to VCR, Then to RF connector on TV. (This way you can watch Direct TV through Tivo without having to change the channels on the Direct TV box.) Part 4: IF the Pioneer IS a DVD recorder..Then...Split... DTV to VHS to TV RF connector...Tivo to DVD recorder to TV audio video connection. Part 5: TV has only an RF connector (Bad choice) IF Pioneer IS a DVD R,(Most dvd r's require signal to connect through A/V connections) you'll… [cont.]

What do I need to to be able to transfer video from my tv/vcr to my computer?
Q. What devices and/or programs would I need for my computer so that I can take stuff on old vhs tapes and tv that on now and have it on my computer as files, etc.. Also, what do I need to make screen caps?
Asked by fuzzyfishy7 - Thu Jan 8 12:39:23 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You'll need a video capture device. For VHS, you don't need much fancy, but you will need either an external (USB typically) device or an internal video capture card. They come into two major varieties: those that include tuners and those that don't. The benefit of one with a tuner is that you can also watch and capture TV. These devices come with the software needed to capture to some sort of video file (MPEG, AVI, WMV, etc.) and often include a screen capture utility. One last thing: you'll do better with a device that has full hard decoding. Those that require your computer to do the work often yield less desirable results. Expect to pay between $50 and $100.

Are there VCRs out there that can automattically turn on TV and VCR to record something?
Q. Well i want to record sports matches but they occour when im at work. Id want to record them while im away, but DVR and Tivo all require a monthly service fee. A. In other words, your VCR has a built in tuner. If you connect the antenna to the ANT IN F-connector and set up your VCR to record from its menu, you should be good to go. You do not need to turn ON your TV to record anything on the VCR. Who's going to watch it if you're at work???

How Do I HooK Up a VCR, DVD Player, and my TV so that the sound comes from my Stereo System Speakers?
Q. How do I connect all the wires? Thanks for the help.
Asked by tennagain - Fri Aug 1 13:42:22 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I have a similar setup. I hook my cable TV to my VCR/DVD player (it's both) which I then run a coaxial cable from to my TV, and hook my VCR up to my receiver with red white and yellow RCA cables. Your receiver should have multiple inputs on it so you could do it that way, you'd just need to have your DVD player and VCR hooked up separately via RCA cables. The way I've done it allows me to just have the TV on (the VCR/DVD player allows the cable signal through even if it's off) and also allows me the option of having anything in my room come out of the surround sound speakers (including my computer which is also hooked up with RCA cables). Hope this helped, good luck!

The VCR is JVC and the TV is Magnasonic. Andd they're both old-school. Also the tv is connected to a dvd player, but cant be connected to both the dvd and the vcr at the same time. Yeah. Asked by Michelle L - Sat Feb 13 19:48:17 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. On the back of the VCR find the connections where you screw on a coaxial cable (those cables are usually black, and are what you use to connect to cable service). One of those, almost always the bottom one, will be labeled as "OUT", "ANT OUT", or something like that. Screw on one end of a cable there, and connect the other end to the coaxial connection on the back of the TV. Turn on both TV and VCR, and put the TV on channel three. Put in the tape and press the play button. You should be able to see your movie. If not, turn the TV to channel 4.

A. I have had this problem and I use a butter knife and fiddle with the cassette up and down and move it around push abit on it and try to free it that way. Sometimes it takes longer than others. In a worse case you might break the tape because usually it is the ribbon of the tape that is stuck on something inside. Keep at it and you might surprise yourself... otherwise...Hmmm?
